Lavender Days 2008 was a huge success, and over the next few posts I want to share with you many of the highlights. There were so many memorable events, but one that stands out in my mind was the 5K race.
It was 5 a.m. when Tricia, Christa, Katie, and I left my house to get to the farm in time for the 5K registration on June 28th. We arrived at the farm wide-eyed as we witnessed several people (including many amazing volunteers!) already eager to register and start the race.
As we gathered everyone at the starting line at 7:30 a.m., Gary Young welcomed the runners and asked the group to share where they were from, their ages, the number of family members running, etc.

It was fascinating to hear their responses. We had runners from New Zealand, Australia, and many other faraway places. The oldest runner participating was a 76 year-old gentleman, and there was a family with SEVERAL children running in the race!
With close to 600 runners this year, it was an amazing sight to see so many people winding through the lavender fields enjoying the early morning run.

The finish line was an exciting place to be, as we cheered participants who inspired all of us with their contagious energy!I hope to be able to join the runners in next year's race, which will take place on June 27, 2009. Hooray to all our 5K winners--you're all winners!
